Resident Assistants face the challenge of being overworked and underpaid

Despite policy changes in March 2024, Western Kentucky University Resident Assistants continued to face issues with overwork, inconsistent scheduling, and inadequate compensation. Efforts by Housing and Residence Life to address concerns saw limited success, according to current and former RAs.

Jody Richards Hall closed for renovations on March 15, 2024, leaving student lab attendants seeking new jobs. While some, like freshman Garrett Dillion, quickly found new roles, others, like senior Veronica Vallejo-Garcia, faced challenges.

The moments before the worst moment of my life

In this piece, I explore my own personal journey of grief. On June 9, 2020, I held my father’s lifeless body in our living room after COVID-19 stole him from me. Three months earlier, he was joking, drinking Bud Light, and surviving pneumonia; now he is gone — and so is the life I knew.
